| Ugh, ok I realize that its only been what, like half an hour since I last posted? But I seriously have to rant for a bit. My roommate is driving me crazy!! I am soooooo sick of being talked about behind my back, while I can hear it all!! I do realize that I do my fair share of complaining about her, but at least I go to the other side of grounds and do it around people who generally won't see her everyday. I don't talk about her badly with some random hallmate. I just don't understand her. First she goes and says that everything is fine and stuff, but then she goes and stops talking to me unless she has some random question to ask me. And even then it sounds like I'm twisting her arm to get her to ask me! Ahhh! Why did I have to get the crappy roommate!!! And what's worse is that it just adds to my stress, which i really don't need right now. It would all be fine and dandy if we could just agree to disagree and not say anything about each other to anyone and get along in at least a little bit of peace. If anyone has any advice, please send it along. | | |
| So its a Thursday...and not a bad one at that. "Friends" is all new tonight, so that give cause for celebration. Thursdays are generally a good day for me anyway. I have one of my favorite classes today, Art History, with one of the most adorable old men I've ever seen in my life. Today he was talking about the "twinkling" effect of Van Eyt (spelling?). He creates a twinkling beard on his "Man in the Red Turban." Not only that, in the book of hours, "Tres Hours" the peasant men are apparently warming their gonads!! Haha, it was quite funny to hear it come out of our "teddy bear" professor who has a bald spot in the perfect shape of a yamaca.
Hmm, let's see, other news...I got my housing assignment the other day. Bice baby, all the way!! And, as if that was all the good news...Katie is living right down the hall from me!!!! I'm so excited. Next year is going to be fan-tas-tic. And, on top of all that, I've decided that I definately want to study abroad next year. Religious studies is definately going to be my major with Art History being either my double major or minor. So, with that in mind, I have decided to go to either England or Italy. Perhaps that Italian I am taking will come in handy after all .
It is very nice to be kind of ahead of the game. Now the only problem is, if I do study abroad, where will I get the money to do so? If I work at camp again this summer, there is no way I will have the money to spend in Europe. I know my parents won't give me unlimited spending money...definately not rich here people. So, therein lies the problem. I'm considering getting a job somewhere around c-ville next year...however to do that I would probably need a car, and I'm not sure if I'm willing to bring one. Hmmm, maybe I should start a "Send Sarah to Europe Fund." I could have all kinds of cool fundraisers like rock-a-thons, and little country fairs will games to lure people in and spend all of their money on me!! Mwah-hahaha. Then again, I am always willing to take suggestions from all of my devoted fans out there (all four of you ).
| - The Riders of Rohan Ooh, I now have a free trial of Xanga Premium!! Very cool, very cool. So, I've decided to make a few changes to the site. The whole CoOking with reynOLds thing was cute and kind of humorous in an inside-joke kind of way. However, that doesn't really reflect who I am, so I decided to do away with it. Sorry to all of my devoted fans who enjoyed the first site better.
So last night was our first-annual Golden Globes Party at Dunglison. It really was great fun, especially since I won our little game. Out of the seventeen-odd categories we picked our winners from, I got eight correct!! The most exciting part however was that "The Return of the King" won for best picture and director. It definately deserved it in my opinion. There were a few disputes over its validity as a drama, but I think there's no question. And so, in the following paragraph I will attempt to persuade all those who do not share my sentaments.
From the artful opening shot of the worm on Smeagol's finger to the final parting shot of Samwise Gamgee, the whole movie was a masterpiece. What many people fail to realize however, is that it is more than just a fantasy movie. It is drama at its greatest. The fantasy aspects merely provide a setting for this story chocked full of universal themes to take place. Take away the wizards, evil monsters, and elfs and you're left with wholesome, believeable characters. Gandalf portrays the rightous man struggling against all the evil in the world and steadily loosing ground until he finally finds support in a few young hobbits, a couragous dwarf, a loyal elf, and two noble men. Frodo, the protagonist of the tale is almost equivalent to a Christ-like figure who must overcome all the difficulties set before him and save the world against the evil lord Saruon (spelling?). The pure struggle of humanity against evil is the key dramatic aspect of this picture. It has deep theological, anti-industrial, and anti-war themes. It is a story that can be told in any time or place. The entire trilogy is truly a story of all time.
Please bear in mind that these are my opinions, and by no means the feelings of everyone in the world. So if you're going to critique this post of mine, please do so with an open mind and the realization that these are my opinions.
| - Symphony No. 5 Well, its a new day. And I must say, I do love new days. Especially if those new days are Fridays . Just one more class to go and then I'm free!! Luckily for me, it's a fan-tas-tic class. Yay for drama nerds!! Today we're doing something called "To Tell the Truth." I can only guess that its something like the game "Two Truths and a Lie." At any rate, it should be great fun. Now all I have to do is figure out what in the world I'm going to do this weekend. Any suggestions?
Grr, do you know what I just hate? Right now I am not a big fan of people. Girls especially, with the exception of a select few. Just a little question to throw out there...why in the world does it matter what you're wearing?! Ugh, girls can be soooo petty.
On a lighter note...I'm going to an eighties party!!! Ahh! How exciting!! Hehe, now its just a question of figuring out the perfect outfit. Its been so long since the eighties...I don't think I remember what I wore! Time to plan the outfit!
| - Both Sides Now Wow, this is not cool. This is my THIRD entry today . This is more entries than I've ever made in my life for any kind of journal!!
So I've decided to start doing my Valentines now. I have these really cool Lord of the Rings ones that are foil...very cool. Unfortunately, seeing as how I'm so obsessed with Legolas ( ) I just might have to keep all of those for myself. I'm such a loser, haha. So, yeah...great fun huh? Anywho, let's talk about Valentines Day itself shall we?
So, to begin with, its the biggest commerical excuse for a holiday there is. Maybe this is coming from a biased point of view (i.e.: I've never had a boyfriend/significant other on Valentines Day) but I really dislike the whole idea. Yeah, it's cool to get a little something for your friends/family, but other than that, the whole chocolate coated, teddy bear, dozen roses idea makes me want to puke. Maybe its just the pessimist in me, but I've just never had much love for the holiday. As a matter of fact, for the past four years I've worn black on Feb. 14! I really don't know what else to say about the subject of this little rant of mine, except that the holiday really rubs me the wrong way. But hey, if you want to go out and be all lovey-dovey with your partner/significant other, be my guest. Just please don't do it around me.
Wow, I think that's the longest thing I've ever ranted on in my life. Hmm, I'll have to look into that...
